Abstract

HENRIQUES, Aníbal Manuel Pereira  and  LIMA, Maria Luísa. Estados afectivos, percepção do risco e do suporte social: a familiaridade e a relevância como moderadores nas respostas de congruência com o estado de espírito. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2003, vol.21, n.3, pp.375-392. ISSN 0870-8231.

Two studies examined the effects of familiarity and relevance in affect infusion (Forgas, 1995), with two types of cognition: risk perception and perceived social support. In the social support study, participants in different affective states assessed how many people they perceived as available to support them in situations with different degrees of familiarity and relevance. Results showed an «affect infusion» effect only on less familiar situations. In the risk perception study, participants in different affective states assessed the probability of familiar and unfamiliar negative events to relevant and irrelevant targets. Results showed an optimistic bias qualified by an interaction effect: the perceived unique invulnerability is stronger in the negative mood condition, the only condition capable of inducing unique invulnerability with familiar events.

Keywords : Affect infusion; risk perception; perceived social support.
