CANETE, Sandra  and  PIRES, António. Asfixia perinatal e comportamento maternal. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2002, vol.20, n.3, pp.439-448. ISSN 0870-8231.

The purpose of the present study is to build a theoretical model about parental behavior of mothers of children who have suffered from perinatal hypoxia. The participants are 4 mothers of children aged 4 months to 3 years old. Three of the participants were primiparous mothers. Mothers were contacted at Maternity ward. Data was collected by means of semi-structured interviews and analyzed according to the Grounded Theory. We found that all crisis is lived trough stages, mothers need to separate the birth, mothers discharge from the maternity ward, the child's' internment, and baby's discharge, and at home with the baby. Some categories from the after the child's discharge include mothers' concern about child development, vigilance of child development and as consequence mother and child dependence.

Keywords : Mother; child; perinatal hypoxia; Grounded Theory.
