The aim of the present study is to develop a Portuguese version of the original version of the Ways of Coping Questionnaire using a conservative perspective. 98 working women, 49% under age of 30, 77.8% married, scholar level above the Portuguese pattern, answer to the Portuguese version of the original 50 items Folkman and Lazarus (1988) version questionnaire. The Portuguese version adopted after translation and a consensus format of the items, lost two items, conserving 48 of the original items. Psychometric properties are similar to the Ways of Coping Questionnaire. The problems to the Portuguese version are similar to the problems of the original version. We can say that is better, like Edwards and O'Neill (1998) suggestion that users of the WCQ should develop their own scales.
