Abstract

ESPINHO, Rute Patrícia  and  SOUSA, Fernando Cardoso de. Criatividade e antecedentes ao consumo de drogas. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2001, vol.19, n.3, pp.389-398. ISSN 0870-8231.

This study aims at elaborating on the connection between creativity and the reasons that lead to the use of heroin and cannabis. One hundred twenty six subjects (63 heroin users and 63 cannabis users) filled in a Portuguese version, adapted from the Inventory of Drug-Taking Situations (IDTS; Turner, Annis, Sklar, 1997), to evaluate the situations that lead to drug consumption; and an adaptation of The Physiognomic Cue Test (PCT; Stein, 1975), to evaluate their creativity. The results show that heroin users make reference to more negative situations than cannabis users, while there are no differences between both groups as to positive circumstances that lead to drug consumption. As to creativity, we found a positive correlation between the «feeling» (affective) subscale and cannabis use; and a negative relationship between the «action» (cognitive) subscale and heroin use. No relationship was found between creativity and the situation that the role of creativity as a possible way to rehabilitate leads to drug use. heroin users. The study provided important data to the analysis of the situations that lead to drug consumption, and to the role of creativity as a possible way to rehabilitate heroin users.

Keywords : Drug addiction; reasons for drug consumption; creativity.
