The present study was conducted as a part of a larger research concerning the psychosocial context of child abuse and neglect. It was specifically designed to analyze the prevalence of the history of abuse in Portuguese parents from the community. Nine hundred and thirty two parents (506 mothers and 426 fathers), composing our community parents' sample, that were selected through public primary schools from the Northern area of Portugal, and completed the Portuguese version of the Childhood History Questionnaire (CHQ, Milner, Robertson, & Rogers, 1990). Results illustrate the received care, as the prevalence of child and adolescent physical (with and without sequelae) and sexual abuse history in community parents. They show relevant aspects about participant's history of physical and sexual abuse, such as: age of its occurrence, abuse recurrence, kind of perpetrators and abusive behavior.
