The aim of this study was to verify existing relationship between the ideology of technological rationality and narcissistic traits of personality. Those types of ideology and personality were considered partial substitutes to those studied by Adorno et al. about autoritarian personality. Two scales were constructed - one for each variable - and were applied together with the scale F. A hundred and sixty two undergraduates from São Paulo University participated as subjects. The two scales constructed were submited to principal-components, with Varimax rotation. The first scale, the ideology of technological rationality produced five factors and the other six factors. Significant correlations were found between the three scales. We concluded that a technological, systematic, nomalized view of society and individual is affected by and strengthens the narcissistic and sadomasoquist traits of personality.
