Adolescent motherhood constitutes a risk factor to the mother's and child's development, having a negative influence on their developmental pathways. Even though, some mothers are able to adapt themselves to having a child in adolescence, and some babies don't suffer from the adverse impact originated from the fact that their mothers are adolescents. In the present article, we described the adverse consequences that can arise from adolescent motherhood, particularly in terms of mother's and child's well being. Mother's inadequate behaviour, mainly related to the interaction with the baby and to the caregiving, are also presented, and the circumstances (protective factors and resilience conditions) enabling more adapted developmental trajectories, either for adolescent mother and baby, were analysed.
