This paper presents a survey of the situation of health psychology in Portugal for the domains of research, teaching and practice. A broad spectrum of research activities in health psychology exists: health promotion and prevention of illness, identification of risk factors, treatment and care of the patient, rehabilitation and illness adaptation, and organization of health services. Key weakness are missing co-ordination and lack of continuity. Universities offer couses on health psychology, but a comprehensive curriculum work done in the field of primary care, maternities and does not exist.
