Hypertension is a critical issue of public health. Despite the agreement about the involvement of psychosocial factors there is still controversy about their etiopathogenic role. The aim of the present study was to investigate possible relations between the psychological profile of 41 hypertensive patients, assessed by the Rorschach´ projective technique, the level of patient´ compliance and the degree of severity of hypertension. Results are presented and discussed, as well as the methodological problems of assessment strategies. Current implications of the study of the hypertensive psychological profile are considered.
