After a short description of the neurophysiology of pain, the author details the ways of expression and communication of pain in infancy and childhood. He details the changes introduced by pain in the affective, cognitive and social life of the child, and the role of anxiety, depression and guilt in its evolution. Finally he shows how a cooperative endeavour between parents and technicians may contribute to its relief.
