The author presents an overview of the therapeutic intervention with infants suffering from autism, emphasizing the following issues: 1) Importance of early diagnosis and treatment; 2) Existance of regulatory deficits in sensorial processing, which are in some cases the basis for communication difficulties; 3) Therapeutic modalities should take into consideration child's psychological functioning as a whole and also the impact of child's dysfunction on parent-child relationship and the re-establishment of interactive functioning. Clinical experience with these children is presented through a case report.
