This paper presents a different epistemological approach - the praxiological one. Praxiology, also called general methodology, is simultaneously something both new and old - it is new as a scientific discipline and it is old as a commonsensual knowledge. This scientific branch deals with the issue of effectiveness of human action and analyses the concepts related to intentional action. It criticizes the methods used in practice from the point of view of its efficiency and efficacy, as well as it presents different ways of improving action. It seems to us that praxiology is a little known or even unknown branch of knowledge in Portugal. For this reason we have been concerned in introducing this approach, its origin, main concepts and theoretical basis, even if it is presented in a summarized form in comparison to Tadeusz Kotarbinski's and his disciples's scientific output.
