^lpt^aNeste artigo, o autor discute o grau de equidade do ensino universitário português, a partir da composição social da sua população. Utilizando as informações recolhidas através de um inquérito por questionário que aplicou a uma amostra representativa dos estudantes universitários do ensino público e privado de todo o país, o autor utilizou vários indicadores para fazer a respectiva caracterização social. De seguida, o autor compara a composição social destes estudantes, por um lado, com a dos estudantes universitários dos anos 60 e, por outro, com a da população actual em geral. Dessa comparação, o autor conclui que o sistema universitário português continua fortemente inegualitário, apesar da retórica institucional, tendo em conta o peso dos jovens pertencentes aos grupos sociais mais prestigiados no conjunto da população universitária.^len^aIn this article, the author argues about the equitity of the portuguese university system, using for the discussion the social composition of the university students. With the informations he got thanks to an inquiry that he applied to a representative sample of the students from the public and the private universities, allover the country, the author characterized these students and he compared them with the university students of the 60ties and with the portuguese population of nowadays. From these compairaisons, the author concludes about the strongly degree of inequitity of the portuguese university system, regarding the importance of the high classes between its students, although the igualitarist intentions existing in the speeches of the politicians.
