The main goal of this paper is to review the groudwork of the existential approaches to psychopathology. After an introduction about the major existentialist themes, focusing upon elements common to all or most of the members within existentialist philosophy, the author refers some general aspects of the existential approaches to psychopathology: what are the psychopathological phenomena and the patient as a being-in-the-world. Concluding, the author particularize aspects of the approaches of Rollo May, I. Yalom, S. Maddi, V. Frankl, R. Laing, M. Villegas and others.
