Abstract

SANTOS, António Rodrigues  and  MONTEIRO, Ana. Control of Woody Invaders in the Ecological Park of Funchal . Silva Lus. [online]. 2007, vol.15, n.2, pp.249-255. ISSN 0870-6352.

The species Acacia dealbata, Acacia melanoxylon and Eucalyptus globulus achieved the statute of invaders in the Parque Ecológico do Funchal. In this study different chemical approaches were used to manage those invaders. The method of application consisted of direct application in cut stems. The essayed concentrations were: 360, 180 and 90 g a.i. L-1 of glyphosate, 480, 240 and 120 g a.i. L-1 of triclopyr and 2.5 g a.i. L-1 of metsulfuron methyl. One year after the application, the herbicide glyphosate was the most active substance, presenting higher values of efficacy in any of the three invaders, followed by the triclopyr and the metsulfuron methyl. The concentration of 90 g a.i. L-1 of glyphosate was considered to be adequate, on the basis of its efficacy, costs of handling, risk for the environment and for the applicator.

Keywords : Acaciadealbata; Acacia melanoxylon; Eucalyptus globules; herbicides.
