DIOGENES, A.; PONTE, H.; PONTE, M. J. J. S.  e  KLOK, S.. Electrochemical noise technique applied to the study Of electrochemical behavior of carbon steel aisi 1020 in Saturated sodium hydrogenocarbonate (nahCO3) with Carbon dioxide (CO2). Corros. Prot. Mater. [online]. 2014, vol.33, n.1-2, pp.12-17. ISSN 0870-1164.

The new offshore production of oil fields discovered in Brazil are in deep layers with high incidence of carbonate rocks in which CO2 concentrations generated are up to 12 times greater than in traditional fields. The CO2 in contact with produced water dissociates in the form of carboxylic acid generating an extremely corrosive to carbon steel and low alloy condition. Under this condition, it is necessary to better understand the interaction between steel and CO2 in order to get a better control condition of CO2 corrosion. This work aims to study a technique for monitoring corrosion caused by the presence of carbonic acid in systems undergoing flow. The electrochemical behavior of carbon steel in media containing dissociated carbon dioxide was evaluated by electrochemical noise technique. The results showed that the technique provides corrosion rates sensitive to electrolyte flow condition and stability of the layers of protective film allowing its application to on-line monitoring.
