Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, María Luisa García. Galdós' marianela: an education perspective. Diacrítica [online]. 2015, vol.29, n.3, pp.122-142. ISSN 0807-8967.

This article is an apology of the true meaning of Pedagogy in Benito Perez Galdós' Marianela. This novel is built on a genuine hymn to education, personalized in the main character, the adolescent Marianela and a positive educational intervention that occurs. There can easily identified (1) the personality of the teacher who lives according to a set of values and holds the responsibility of the process, (2) the requirements of the task of education - determined attitude, a particular type of relationship with the person to be educated, some background of expertise and plenty of optimism, (3) a certain style of intervention supported in what might be called a Pedagogy of Looking, and (4) attention to diversity, valuing the uniqueness of education, intertwined with personal qualities and recognizing the existence of basic human capabilities - to feel, act and think / know - including in the case of people with disabilities.
