In this article we discuss the poetic and political proposal that gave grounds for the introduction of Romanticism in Portuguese literature, through Almeida Garrett, showing how political events became part of the literary imaginary of the first half of the 19^th century. By doing so, we will show in what way Romanticism became associated and ended up fusing with nationalism.
