In this paper I analyze the broadcasting of Portuguese cinema on Portuguese public television from the beginning of regular broadcasting in 1957 to the Revolution of 1974. If, as I believe, television was gradually taking the place of cinema in the regime’s strategy of ideological propaganda, it would be interesting to determine which movies were broadcast by the Portuguese public television during that period and what the reasons were for their selection.
