Abstract

MATOS, Raquel  and  MACHADO, Carla. Feminine discourse on imprisonment and social ties . Anál. Social [online]. 2007, n.185, pp.1041-1054. ISSN 0003-2573.

Using a qualitative approach to the narrative construction of life trajectories of young female prison inmates, this paper analyzes their understanding of prison as an institution. The analysis of discourse on imprisonment is based on the theoretical assumptions and methodologies of feminist approaches to female offending and on the formal reaction to it. The paper discusses the emergence of the meanings of imprisonment based on the renewal and recontextualization of young female inmates' social ties.

Keywords : imprisonment; gender; crime; discourses; qualitative analysis.
