Scope and policy

Revista Portuguesa da História do Livro is the main Portuguese about Book History studies. Its position at the cutting edge of research derives from the ability to attract top-quality work, from both the empirical and theoretical point of view, and from the original nature and importance of the topics addressed.

Revista Portuguesa da História do Livro is a multidisciplinary journal, specializing in the fields of History of the Book and the Edition; Printing History; History of the Book Trade; History of the Lecture; Technical Analysis of the Characters; History of the Paper.

Revista Portuguesa da História do Livro mainly publishes works on Portugal and comparative studies, but is also receptive to publishing works on other countries.

Revista Portuguesa da História do Livro is published two times a year, is indexed at SciELO/Portugal, has adopted a rigorous peer review system and will also be publishing articles in English, French, Spanish or Italian.

Revista Portuguesa da História do Livro do welcomes article submissions in its areas of specialization.


Form and preparation of manuscripts

Revista Portuguesa da História do Livro accepts submissions of original academic works in the social sciences in the form of articles, studies and notes, and book reviews. Publication is subject to assessment by anonymous referees and members of the journal’s editorial board. Articles may be submitted in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.

Work submitted to Revista Portuguesa da História do Livro should be sent by electronic mail in a single file, in Word or a compatible format, using a 12-point font and 1½ line spacing, to
Articles should not exceed 9,000 words in length, including notes, bibliography and tables; studies and notes should not exceed 6,000 words; book reviews should be limited to a maximum of 1,500 words.

Notes should be kept to a minimum in terms of both quantity and size. Tables, diagrams and maps should be numbered and placed at the end of the text, with indications as to where they should be inserted. The bibliography should come after the tables and contain only references to works cited, in alphabetical order by author.

Articles should be accompanied by 100-word summaries, in French and English, five keywords, and author identification data (institutional affiliation, rank, areas of specialization and contact details).

The citations and the references to the authors obey to the following rules as the model in L’Année Philologique , also as a norm to the abbreviations of the quoted journals. Individual and joint authors of articles published in Revista Portuguesa da História do Livro grant the journal the exclusive right of publication in any form and can receive a pre determined number of copies of their studies edited in the journal. Originals will not be returned.
