INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Scope and policy

Publishing policy of the journal

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that freely available scientific knowledge to the public supports a greater global democratization of knowledge. In order to ensure the scientific quality of published articles, and to ensure the impartiality of the review and acceptance of articles for publication, GOT, has a blind peer review system.

Areas of interest of the publication and the type of articles

GOT has as main objective the dissemination of scientific papers in the fields of Geography and Spatial Planning, particularly those relating to the interests of the lines that structure the investigation of CEGOT: Nature and environmental dynamics; Cities, competitiveness and well-being; Cultural landscapes, tourism and development. The articles published are included in the articles section, the contribution must be original and unpublished and not being under review or for publication by another journal. Occasionally texts of invited authors are published.

Procedures of valuation by pairs (peer review) of the journal

To understand the peer review process, we present 18 points that sequentially describe all procedures performed.

1. In order to ensure the scientific quality of the published articles, as well as ensure the impartiality of the review and acceptance of articles for publication, the GOT has a blind peer-review system.

2. The review process begins on the day following the closure of the call for submission of articles to the number in question: the 1 February and 1 August.

3. The editorial team makes a first analysis of the texts (to check compliance with the standards presented in sections I and II), and can request additional elements to the authors or to opt for immediate rejection of the article in duly justified situations.

4. Verified the compliance of these texts are removed all elements identifying the perpetrators.

5. The review process comprises two phases.

6. In the first phase, the articles are sent to two reviewers (depending on the chosen theme and nature of the text) for evaluation. The deadline for evaluation is of 5 weeks, and the reviewer registration on the platform of its decision regarding the publication or the text. The reviewer must go hand in hand with its decision to a review form (provided by the editorial team) and/or comments to text.

7. The reviewer's decision must be one of the following: accept for publication; accept the condition for publication (subject to minor corrections that will be verified by the editors); resubmit for review; reject; or submit to another magazine.

8. Is the editorial policy GOT reject and archive the text whenever at least one of the reviewers recommends rejection.

9. All elements sent by the reviewer, are directed to the authors (without identifying the reviewer) when communication from the editorial decision.

10. At the end of the first phase of review is granted a period of 4 weeks to conditionally accepted texts and the texts that require deeper revisions, to responding to comments and suggestions from reviewers, and send new document with all changes highlighted.

11. All authors who fail to meet the deadline see their archived articles.

12. Then, the second stage of review begins. All the papers reworked (see paragraph 10) are re-sent to the reviewer, or appreciated by the editors (depending on the case) for final review within 4 weeks.

13. The reviewer's decision must be one of the following: accept or reject the article.

14. On the basis of the evaluations the Publisher selects between 10 to 13 texts for publication. Whenever necessary, the qualitative assessment criteria and the confidential comments submitted by reviewers to the Edition are used.

15. Then begins the process of formatting and editing of texts by the editorial team, with duration of 3 weeks.

16. Once the edition of articles to publish is completed, they are sent to authors for reading and authors must communicate any changes within 1 week.

17. It follows the electronic preparation of publishing and assigning DOI.

18. The publication happens twice a year, on June 30 and December 30.
