  • Objectives of the journal: Comunicação e Sociedade is an academic journal that aims to encourage a deeper analysis of communicational phenomena and, simultaneously, contribute to interpreting social reality, by using theoretical and methodological tools from the diverse fields of the humanities and social sciences.

  • History of the journal: Edited since 1999, C&S publishes in both English and Portuguese since 2013. In 2012 has adopted the OJS format.

  • Other information: Comunicação e Sociedade is organised into three sections: (I) Collection of theme articles - which includes up to 10 feature articles; (ii) Varia - which includes no more than 2 articles; (iii) Book reviews / interviews - which includes review articles and interviews.

Comunicação e Sociedade shares the general guidelines of good practices and ethical values in scientific research of the Code of Ethics of the University of Minho. Following the provisions of Section III.2 of the code, any conduct shall be deemed unacceptable that is in "violation of the integrity of the researcher, and, consequently, subject to sanction, including, but not limited to: a) Plagiarism; b) Appropriation of intellectual creations of others, protected by intellectual property rules, without legal consent; c) Fabrication or falsification of research results; d) Use of false biodata; e) Presentation of the same work, in whole or in part, in later publications, without explicit mention of the original source and the reproduced sections; f) Intentional distortion of results as a means to favour a given line of research, or to meet interests extraneous to the scientific truth". Comunicação e Sociedade is aware of possible allegations of plagiarism or misuse of articles published in the journal, and seeks to protect the reputation of the journal against malpractice. Articles submitted for publication may be checked using plagiarism detection software. If plagiarism is detected in an article, or if third-party material is included without first obtaining copyright permission, or with insufficient acknowledgment thereof, or if the authorship of the article is disputed, the journal Comunicação e Sociedade might adopt measures, including, but not limited to: publishing an erratum or corrigendum (correction); withdrawing the journal article; taking the matter to academic authorities; banning the author from publishing in the journal, or taking appropriate legal action. The names and addresses provided in this journal are used exclusively for the services rendered by this journal, and shall not be, under any circumstances, made available for other purposes or to third parties.
